As their range and performance improves there is a growing demand for full electric and plug-in hybrid cars, and to keep these green vehicles going we need ever more EV charging points.
LDM Electrical are OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) approved installers of electric car charging points in Melksham, Trowbridge and the surrounding area. We offer chargers that are suitable for home use, or multi-socket chargers for the workplace, in commercial and public car parks.
The proliferation of electric cars is not surprising when one considers how cheap they are to run compared to cars running on diesel or petrol. It can cost as little as £1 to fully charge a fully electric car for a 100-mile journey (depending on the tariff where you are). Electric vehicles are also exempt from road tax.
If you meet the criteria you may be eligible for an OZEV residential or workplace chargepoint grant to help pay for your EV charging infrastructure.
The OZEV EV home chargepoint scheme is for those owning flats or living in rental properties. The grant provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing and installing a home charging point. The separate Workplace Charging Scheme can be claimed by a business, charity or public authority and provides a digital voucher for up to £350 per socket off the cost of purchasing and installing workplace charging points, up to a maximum of 40 sockets.
You can find out all you need to know about qualifying and applying for an EV chargepoint grant on the Government website. As approved OZEV installers we’ll be able to advise you.
We’re proud to be EV charge point specialists in Wiltshire, offering a wide range of popular makes and models of charging stations to suit your particular car, your vehicle usage and your property.
Typically charging units are wall-mounted with a tethered cable that can be plugged straight into the car.
The first step is for our electricians to visit your property to assess where best to install a charger and what sort of charger you require. We’ll then give you a no-obligation quotation, and if you’re happy we’ll supply and fit your charger and get it up and running as soon as possible. Installation generally takes only a few hours.
One thing to consider is that most domestic properties have single phase power which is unable to support rapid EV chargers. On single phase a maximum charge speed of 7kw an hour is possible, which will fill your battery in between six to eight hours, depending on your vehicle make and model.
